Some 4 million metric tons of ultra-low-sulfur diesel was tracked to Europe on 103 vessels over the month of May, according to the OPIS Tanker Tracker.

A further 2.1 million tons is so far tracked arriving in June on 56 tankers, based on information collated from traders, brokers and satellite tracking data.

May shipments from Russia, the biggest supplier of ULSD to Europe, were tracked at 1.6 million tons, including just under 1.2 million tons from Primorsk, the main Baltic port from which diesel is exported.

Imports from the U.S. were at 1.1 million tons.

A further 437,000 tons was also shipped from Baltic ports, including those in Lithuania and Latvia, known to be used as storage areas for Russian refined products.

Diesel imports to the 28-member countries averaged 3.7 million tons in 2015, based on Eurostat data. But imports topped a record 4.5 million tons in February amid a global oversupply of ULSD.

June volumes from the U.S. are so far tracked at just over 700,000 tons from the U.S. and 749,000 tons from Russia. Both figures are likely to grow as further ships are identified.
